Nature plays an important part in the experience at Thornley Leisure Parks.
Green spaces provide homes for wildlife. Pollinating plants support bees and butterflies. Meanwhile, conserving water helps us use natural resources more carefully. Cleaner equipment can also reduce our reliance on petrol and diesel.
Individually, these changes can seem small. Together, they help us make steady progress.

Creating more space for nature
Wildlife and Sustainability at Holiday Parks
Supporting wildlife remains a key part of sustainability at holiday park level.
At Valley View in Mid Wales, the team continues to care for its Woodland Walk.
Valley View already has a beautiful lake and plenty of birdlife. Therefore, the Woodland Walk helps build on the natural character of the park.
Our Wales in Bloom planting has also continued this year.
At the same time, our Park Garden Competitions encourage our Owners to create spaces with wildlife in mind.
Teams use pollinating plants and create habitats wherever possible. As a result, these areas can offer food and shelter for bees, butterflies and other wildlife.
This work builds on the wildflower areas, bug hotels and other habitats already found across our parks.

Helping children connect with nature
Our younger visitors have also had the chance to get involved.
For National Children’s Gardening Week, Maenan Abbey held bee house painting sessions.
The activity gave children a fun way to learn more about insects. It also encouraged them to think about the habitats wildlife needs.
Maenan Abbey sits within the peaceful Conwy Valley, surrounded by mountains and countryside. Therefore, nature focused activities fit naturally into life at the park.
Small activities like these can help make wildlife conservation engaging for the whole family.
Making everyday maintenance cleaner
Cleaner Equipment Across Our Holiday Parks
Some of our latest sustainability changes happen behind the scenes.
Across numerous parks, teams have replaced traditional petrol and diesel equipment with electric alternatives.
These include electric strimmers, hedge trimmers and push lawn mowers.
As a result, our teams can reduce their reliance on traditional fuels. Electric equipment can also make maintenance quieter around the park.
This builds on our existing use of battery powered grounds equipment and electric maintenance vehicles.
The Beach Caravan Park has also introduced a rechargeable electric golf buggy.
The team can use the buggy to travel around the park without relying on a petrol powered alternative.
Together, these changes support our wider approach to sustainability at holiday park level.
Making better use of natural resources
Water Conservation Across Our Holiday Parks
Water conservation is another important part of our sustainability work.
The Beach now use water butts to collect rainwater.
Park teams can then use the collected water on plants and landscaped areas.
Owners can use the rainwater too.
Therefore, the initiative gives the wider park community a simple way to support water conservation.
Giving organic material another purpose
Making our own compost
The Beach Caravan Park has also been producing its own compost.
Composting turns suitable organic material into something useful.
The team can then use the finished compost to support plants and gardens around the park.
In addition, the compost is available for Owners to use.
This keeps useful material within the park instead of treating it simply as waste.
It also supports the wider focus on composting, recycling and reuse across Thornley Leisure Parks.
A second charging point at The Beach
Supporting electric vehicle travel
More people are choosing to drive electric vehicles.
Therefore, our facilities need to continue developing too.
The Beach Caravan Park has now installed a second electric car charging point.
This gives Owners and visitors additional charging capacity while they are at the park. As a result, extra charging capacity can make visits more convenient for people travelling by electric car.
The new charger builds on the EV facilities already available across Thornley Leisure Parks.
