Sustainability Across Our Parks

At Thornley Leisure Parks, we’re passionate about preserving the stunning natural environments that make our parks so special. From North Wales to Cheshire and North Yorkshire, we’re taking action to reduce our environmental impact, encourage biodiversity, and create greener, more sustainable places for our owners and guests to enjoy.

Sustainability isn’t a one-time project — it’s part of who we are. Each of our parks contributes in its own way, from renewable energy and recycling to rewilding and wildlife conservation. Together, we’re helping to protect the landscapes we love for generations to come.

Wildlife, Rewilding & Biodiversity

Our parks are alive with wildlife, thanks to dedicated rewilding areas and natural habitats.

Ocean Heights and Green Pastures have seen an increase in bees and butterflies through wilding projects. Valley View has planted trees, wildflower rivers and built habitats for birds, bats and insects. Craiglwyd Hall is home to frog ponds, hedgehog huts and wildflower meadows, while The Beach Caravan Park features a central Wild Walk and bug hotels. Dinlle leaves grass banks to grow wild, and Lakeside is developing new habitats with support from its guests.

Clean Energy & Low-Carbon Travel

We’re investing in greener energy and supporting sustainable travel.

EV charging points are available at all parks, with Dinlle offering three chargers and electric buggies on site. Dinlle also generates power through 106 solar panels, while Craiglwyd Hall, Lakeside and others have upgraded to energy-efficient LED lighting to reduce consumption and emissions.

Water Management & Resource Efficiency

We use smart systems to manage and conserve water across our parks.

Ocean Heights and Green Pastures collect rainwater for garden use and monitor usage closely. Dinlle reuses rainwater from the clubhouse roof for cleaning and is refurbishing its bore hole to supply water for on-park operations. is All of all the water for Craiglwyd Hall comes from our own pool up in the mountain which is fed by fresh spring water!

Plasteco

Plasteco benches are a smart, sustainable addition to our parks, providing stylish, durable seating made entirely from recycled plastic. They fit beautifully across our landscapes, from tranquil woodland spots to family-friendly play areas, offering comfort in all weather without the need for ongoing maintenance.

By choosing Plasteco, we’re helping to reduce plastic waste and supporting a greener future for our parks and communities, giving guests a comfortable place to relax while doing something positive for the environment.

Husqvarna Automower 430X

Our shiny new Husqvarna Automower 430X has officially arrived and it is already hard at work keeping The Beach Caravan Park looking its best.
This clever little mower helps us care for the park in a more sustainable way!
It works quietly with clean electric power and is kinder to the environment than traditional petrol mowers. It also means our team can focus on more detailed work around the park while this dedicated helper keeps the lawns neat.

Waste Reduction & Recycling

Recycling and reuse are central to our operations.

Ocean Heights, Green Pastures and Valley View have clear recycling areas across their parks. Craiglwyd Hall reuses old decking as planters and chips branches for paths. The Beach Caravan Park produces its own compost, while Dinlle and Lakeside reduce plastic through refillable bottles and sustainable equipment choices.

Supporting Conservation Sponsorships in the Wider Community

This summer we proudly sponsored Chester Zoo on their inspiring Nature Fest project, bringing a burst of wildlife discovery and conservation awareness to our parks. The collaboration helped families connect with nature through engaging activities, colourful displays and imaginative learning moments that highlighted the importance of protecting our planet. By working together, we created a vibrant, educational experience that encouraged guests of all ages to explore, appreciate and care for the natural world, leaving a lasting impact long after their holiday ended.

Community & Collaboration

Sustainability is a team effort across our parks and communities.

Valley View and Maenan Abbey both take part in the David Bellamy Conservation Scheme and Wales in Bloom. Craiglwyd Hall supports Prestatyn Hedgehog Rescue, Blood Bikes and Tŷ Gobaith. At The Beach Caravan Park and Lakeside, guests are encouraged to join in with eco-friendly projects, while Dinlle continues to lead with long-term sustainability plans.
