Autumn Colours and Woodland

The Conwy Valley puts on a beautiful show as the leaves change. At Tu Hwnt i’r Bont, Virginia creeper turns the historic building shades of red and orange beside the stone bridge. In Gwydir Forest, the walk from Sawbench leads through the trees to a viewpoint across the valley and mountains. Then there’s Pont y Pair in Betws-y-Coed, where the River Llugwy tumbles beneath the bridge, framed by the village’s autumn foliage. Bring your camera, but leave time to enjoy the views too.

Waterfalls and Lakes

Some views make you stop before you even think to take a photo. At Aber Falls (Rhaeadr Fawr), the white cascade cuts through the dark rock of the valley, with autumn colour along the walk adding to the scene. The Lonely Tree at Llyn Padarn offers a quieter image. On a still morning, its reflection appears in the lake beneath the mountains of Eryri.

Coastal Walks and Autumn Sunsets

Autumn sunsets are worth making an evening of, and these three outings give you more than a view of the sky. At Dinas Dinlle, the beach opens out towards Anglesey. Wander along the shore as the light changes, then find a place to watch the sun go down over the water. Newborough Forest and Ynys Llanddwyn make the journey part of the experience. The path takes you from the shelter of the pines onto the open beach, where the island’s lighthouse and old ruins give your sunset photograph an iconic silhouette.
