Unlock an Unforgettable Halloween at Welsh Mountain Zoo with The Keeper’s Key
We’re proud to be joining forces with Welsh Mountain Zoo once again, this time for a very special Halloween prize draw that combines an unforgettable North Wales getaway with wildlife, conservation and a few surprises along the way.
The Keeper's Key
Welsh Mountain Zoo, the National Zoo of Wales, has launched The Keeper’s Key, giving one lucky winner and three guests the chance to experience the Zoo in a way very few visitors ever will.
From unlocking the gates before opening time to stepping behind the scenes with the animal care team, this is no ordinary day at the Zoo. And to make a full weekend of it, Thornley Leisure Parks is providing a two-night stay at The Beach Caravan Park in North Wales.
Entries are just £5, and you can enter as many times as you like! Better still, every entry will help support the future development of the Zoo’s Margay habitat.
Our partnership with Welsh Mountain Zoo
At Thornley Leisure Parks, we have always believed that a great holiday is about much more than where you stay.
The places you visit, the experiences you discover and the local attractions you return home talking about are all part of what makes a break in North Wales memorable.
That’s one of the reasons we’re so proud of our ongoing relationship with Welsh Mountain Zoo in Colwyn Bay.
Our partnership supports the Zoo’s snow leopards and one of its children’s playgrounds, helping contribute towards both animal care and the experience families enjoy when they visit. It brings together two things that are important to us as a family business: supporting our local area and helping visitors make more of their time in North Wales. Welsh Mountain Zoo is within easy reach of several of our North Wales holiday parks and has long been one of the attractions we recommend to holidaymakers looking for a family day out.
Through our work together, we can also help shine a light on the conservation and education work taking place here in North Wales.
Introducing The Keeper’s Key
This Halloween, that partnership is taking on an exciting new form.
The Keeper’s Key is an exclusive prize draw created by Welsh Mountain Zoo, with one winner and three guests receiving an experience that goes far beyond an ordinary visit.
The adventure begins on Friday 30th October 2026, when the winners will check into a Crafnant holiday caravan at The Beach Caravan Park in Llanddulas for a two-night stay.
Then, on Halloween itself, Saturday 31st October, it’s time to turn the key.
What could you win?
The winner and three guests will begin their Halloween morning by arriving at Welsh Mountain Zoo before it opens to the public, where they’ll receive The Keeper’s Key and unlock the Zoo for a very special day.
After time to explore, the experience continues with lunch at the Safari Restaurant before heading behind the scenes for an exclusive Keeper for the Afternoon experience.
From 1pm to 4pm, the winner and three guests will discover more about the work that goes into caring for the Zoo’s animals, with activities selected by the animal care team according to animal welfare, routines and requirements on the day.
And when the Zoo closes to everyone else, the experience still isn’t over.
The winner and three guests will be treated to an exclusive after-hours Halloween experience, including:
- A private silent disco
- Toasted s’mores
- An exclusive twilight walk
- Halloween activities throughout the day
- A Family Annual Membership to Welsh Mountain Zoo
- Their very own Keeper’s Key keepsake
All alongside a weekend stay at The Beach Caravan Park from Friday 30th October to Sunday 1st November 2026.
Helping unlock a future for the Margays
Behind the experience is an important cause.
Funds raised through The Keeper’s Key prize draw will be ringfenced to support the future development of the Margay habitat at Welsh Mountain Zoo. Margays are small wild cats native to the forests of Central and South America, with remarkable climbing abilities that make them particularly well adapted to life in the trees.
They have been part of Welsh Mountain Zoo since 2007, and the Zoo has welcomed 10 Margay kittens through its breeding programme, including six males and four females. Kittens born at the Zoo have also moved to other collections as part of the European breeding programme. The Zoo hopes the money raised through The Keeper’s Key will help it continue developing an environment that supports the welfare and natural behaviours of these fascinating animals.
It means every entry is about more than the chance to win an extraordinary weekend. It is also a way of directly supporting the Zoo’s conservation work.
A North Wales Halloween to remember
There is plenty to love about North Wales throughout Autumn, from quieter coastal walks and changing landscapes to days spent discovering some of the region’s best-loved attractions.
For the winner and three guests of The Keeper’s Key, Halloween weekend will bring all of that together. A coastal stay at The Beach Caravan Park. A morning unlocking the National Zoo of Wales. A glimpse behind the scenes with its keepers. An evening experiencing the Zoo after everyone else has gone home.
And importantly, the opportunity to support the future of a species that has been part of the Welsh Mountain Zoo story for almost two decades.
We’re delighted to play our part in making the weekend possible and to continue working alongside Welsh Mountain Zoo to champion the brilliant attractions, experiences and conservation work taking place right here in North Wales.
The Keeper’s Key prize draw closes at 9am on Thursday 15th October 2026.
