We know preparing your holiday home for winter can be stressful – that’s why we have put together our ‘winterise your holiday home’ guidelines, so we can take some of that stress away with a handy checklist of things to do when preparing your holiday home for the colder months.

Follow our step by step guide and be safe in the knowledge that your caravan holiday home will be safe and secure this Winter.

What is Winterisation?

Give your holiday home a little love this winter with our drain down service, which includes a drain down of all water pipes, anti-freeze, shower disconnection and drain up once the colder weather has passed and much more which is important to prevent burst pipes!

Remove valuable items

As well as ensuring all valuables are removed for your static caravan, it is also important to ensure that you leave curtains open and a sign in the window saying items have been removed.

Leaving curtains closed could indicate you have something to hide, whereas leaving windows open will demonstrate that the caravan has been emptied.

Dispose of Food

Once foods have been disposed of, it is useful to give cupboards a good clean. Also ensure that you empty and clean your fridge freezer and leave it turned off with the door left open.

Cover Upholstery

With the curtains being left open it is important to ensure that all upholstery that is in direct sunlight is suitably covered to prevent sun damage and fading.

Direct sunlight can age the appearance of furniture in a caravan rapidly and this is something you will not want to have to replace when you come to reopen your holiday caravan in the spring.

Prevent Damp

A couple of bowls of salt strategically placed around your caravan (especially in dark places) will absorb any moisture that on cold days can lead to damp and mould.

Secure Outdoor Furniture

Securing all furniture is properly will ensure that a) your outside furniture is with your static caravan when you return in the spring and b) your caravan and furniture is undamaged from being blown about in any high winds.

Lock the Door

Need we say anymore? As stupid as it seems this can easily be overlooked as people look to get away they forget the thing that is most important.

Inform the Park

Once you have completed all the tasks above please inform the park managers when you are leaving and likely to return in the spring, that way they know the caravan is empty and they can keep an eye on it for you.

Of course you will be able to visit your caravan at anytime over the winter for your own piece of mind, it is essential that park staff are informed that the caravan has been closed down.
